Jeannette Chua: Immediate implants and immediate provisionalization in compromised sites

Immediate implants and immediate provisionalization (IIPP) has been shown to provide optimal preservation of soft and hard tissues which is paramount in the esthetic zone. Often IIPP are reserved for carefully selected cases with minimal risks as this technique was considered to be high risk in the earlier days.

Early evidence has suggested possible similar survival rates for implants placed in compromised sites. This presentation will illustrate how IIPP can benefit advanced periodontitis sites in the esthetic zone. This technique reduces the number of surgeries on patients with minimal trauma after extraction.  It also demonstrates the possibility of stable long-term preservation of soft and hard tissues despite sometimes only having 3 walls remaining after extraction.

Dr. Jeanette Chua obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Melbourne in 1998 and began practicing dentistry in Singapore. She subsequently returned to Australia to further her practice while completing a Master in Applied Commerce.  She later did a preceptorship program in Implant Dentistry at the Implant Department of Loma Linda University School of Dentistry (LLUSD) in California, USA. This was followed up with specialty training in Advanced Periodontology and Implant Surgery, and a Master in Advanced Periodontology.  She is currently running a private practice in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology and also a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
