Julie Hemar: Osseointegration every day - avoiding and overcoming complications

The development of the concepts and practice of osseointegration has created a quiet revolution in dentistry with favorable practical results. Concepts of osseointegration as they were defined by P.I. Brånemark evolve through major changes regarding the material, design, and surface characteristics. Together with the high rate of success of dental implants, and with their growing use in the last few decades, comes an increased incidence of complications. However, there is no consensus for the management of complications. We know what is needed or what should be avoided. The objective is just, with clinical cases, to unravel in a rigorous scientific reasoning, different ways of complications management, without forgetting patient’s psychological approach and that patient’s satisfaction and function is the prime achievement of osseointegration.

Dr. Julie Hemar graduated from the University of Odontology in Lyon in 2008. She has university degrees in implantology and oral surgery. She completed her residency and worked as Assistant Professor in the Civil Hospital of Lyon. Dr. Hemar's research focused on osteonecrosis of the jaw induced by bisphosphonates and biomaterials. She has extensive knowledge of bone biology and biomaterials. Her private practice focuses on oral surgery, implantology and periodontology.
