Today, the time factor plays an increasingly important role in a patient’s treatment decisions and effective solutions are expected from the dentist. This raises issues when deciding on immediate or delayed implant placement even in the posterior zone. Several factors need to be taken into consideration when deciding between the different methods.
A protocol of decision making of the two treatment modalities will be illustrated by several clinical cases. This decision tree is influenced by the bone quality and quantity at the implant placement site, the presence of infections, the occlusal forces and the number of implants placed. By using a decision tree you can simplify your choice between immediate or delayed implant placement.
