Werner Zechner & Bastian Wessing: Simultaneous GBR and implant placement in horizontal ridge augmentations
- Evidence-based guided bone regeneration for horizontal defects
- GBR simultaneous to implant placement
- Improving confidence levels in hard and soft tissue management – Regenerative solutions general session
- Nobel Biocare New York Symposium 2016
Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a well established technique for horizontal alveolar ridge augmentation. Since the first publications in the early 1980’s extensive research was carried out focusing on different membranes, grafting materials, and timing of implant placement, as well as incision and suturing techniques.
Based on clinical experience and following extensive literature research this lecture will focus on clinical and evidence-based GBR procedures, usable in everyday practice with a high predictability and clinical outcome as well as a favorable long-term prognosis.
Finally, tools for decision-making in GBR will be given and guidelines will be presented on how and when a simultaneous approach can be considered.
Prof. Werner Zechner is Co-Head of the Department for Oral Surgery and Implantology at the University Dental Clinic of the Medical University in Vienna, Austria. He specializes in bone grafting, implant surfaces and template-guided implant placement protocols including senior research activities for various implant navigation systems. Prof. Zechner is also Head of the Scientific Consortium 'Computed-aided Implant Placement and Prosthetic Rehabilitation'. He has published over 40 publications about implant surfaces, healing mechanisms, implant navigation protocols and implant surgery in various peer-reviewed, international scientific journals and books and has won seven national and international scientific awards. Prof. Zechner is a Past and Vice President of the Austrian Society for Implantology (OGI), a board member of the Austrian Dental Association (OEGZMK) and a member of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO).
