Matthias Karl

Biography

Born in 1977, Prof. Dr. Matthias Karl studied dentistry in Erlangen, Germany from 1997 to 2003. He subsequently gained experience in different private practices and received a summa cum laude doctorate in dentistry in 2004. Focussing his research efforts on biomechanics, the precision of implant-supported restorations and material science, Matthias Karl started working in the Department of Prosthodontics at Erlangen dental school in 2005 and was an ITI Scholar in the Department of Reconstructive Sciences, School of Dental Medicine, University of Connecticut, USA from 2007 to 2008. Having published extensively in internationally renowned journals he received his postdoctoral lecture qualification at the end of 2008 and became a fellow member of the International Team for Implantology. In April 2016 he was awarded a professorship at Erlangen University and in December 2016 he assumed the position as chair of the Department of Prosthodontics, Saarland University Dental School.
