Thomas Balshi

Biography

Dr. Thomas J. Balshi received his dental degree and Prosthodontic Residency certification from Temple University School of Dentistry, and an Honorary Doctorate of Science from Cabrini College. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, and is the founder of Prosthodontics Intermedica, and Director of the Institute For Facial Esthetics in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. He is Charter Member and Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration, and a Fellow of both the American and International Colleges of Prosthodontists. Dr. Balshi lectures globally and his scientific research using Brånemark implants and immediate function is widely published. He co-authored A Patient’s Guide To Dental Implants and Zygomatic Implants, The Anatomy-Guided Approach published by Quintessence.

Immediate placement/loading to treat a terminal dentition

A 43-year-old male patient was not comfortable with the idea of a denture. The loss of anterior teeth finally stimulated the urgency to move forward with a solid reconstructive plan.  A restoration provided at day of surgery proved to be the optimal solution for this patient.

Guided placement of zygomatic implants

A 68-year-old female patient suffered from tooth loss and removable dentures for more than 20 years.  A protocol considering four zygomatic implants was chosen to avoid lengthy and invasive bone grafting procedures.
