This online course is the first of three phases of the Single Tooth Implant Certificate program. You will build a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge of key concepts and treatment methods for successful single-tooth implant placement procedures in modern dentistry.  The learning journey is straightforward and easily adaptable to your personal schedule. Here are some key facts to help you get started:

  • Phase one is fully on-line. You can complete the learning at your own pace. To maximize your progress, it is recommended you complete phase one within a period of 6 weeks.

  • The course uses a blended e-learning format, including reading materials, clinical videos, as well as some reference material.

  • Faculty are available for Q&A via a moderated online discussion page dedicated to each topic.

  • To help you evaluate your progress and knowledge retention, some useful self-assessment questions are placed at the end of each chapter.

  • The program is concluded with a formal proctored on-line exam. You can access your video test center at your convenience from your own computer. 

Learning Objectives

Following completion of the Theory of Single Tooth Implants Online Course, participants will be able to:

  • Diagnose and plan single-tooth implant treatment
  • Identify the appropriate surgical procedures associated with implant placement
  • Explain the principles of single restoration design that optimize success and minimize complications
  • Develop an optimal post-implant placement care program for patients

Course Content

The clinical topics covered in this course are:

  • Diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Bone physiology
  • Dental implant systems, materials, surfaces, and the role of the wound healing cascade
  • Biomechanics of the single implant
  • Grafting alveolar defects prior to implant placement
  • Surgical guidelines for placing dental implants
  • Immediate implant placement
  • Restoration of the single implant

 

Educational methods: Electronically mediated (online course), clinical videos, video lectures, self-assessment & reflection with feedback, and moderated online discussion with faculty for Q&A.

 

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites to this course. The course is open to applicants with any dental professional background or dental students.

How much time do I need to invest?

 

We estimate that you will need to spend around 20 hours to work through the online content. You may, however, wish to invest more time for self-reflection and studying the reference materials. 

 

For the final examination, you will have a maximum of 3 hours for completion plus a break.

 

How many CE hours are available for this course?

 

The Foundation for Oral Rehabilitation designates this online course for 20 continuing education hours.

 

How is the final exam conducted?

 

The final exam is conducted as a supervised/proctored assessment.

Once you have completed the online learning and feel well-prepared for the exam, you can schedule it immediately. First, set up your workstation by removing any study materials and making yourself comfortable to take the exam. This is not an open-book exam. Second, select the Final Exam button that appears at the end of the course. Third, an examiner will contact you within a few minutes, screen your environment, and monitor your exam. 

You will have a maximum of 3 hours to complete the exam. A thirty-minute break will be offered at 1.5 hours, so schedule at least 3.5 hours to take your exam. 

The passing score is 75%. If you are unsuccessful, you may re-take the exam once after two weeks and up to 6 months. The cost to re-take the exam is $70.

 

How much will it cost?

 

Costs for each phase of the program depend on your region. Once your application is approved, you shall receive access to the online payment form.

For your information and as a guidance:

Phase I: Theory of Single Tooth Implants costs $488.00. 

A comprehensive knowledge assessment concludes the theory part of the program via a proctored or supervised online exam. It provides a benchmark evaluation for the course participants and, if successful, candidates receive a Certificate, which acknowledges their successful completion of the course: Theory of Single Tooth Implant Treatment.

 

Refund and Cancelation

Dr. Chow is a Specialist in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He also acts as the Managing Director of the Hong Kong Dental Implant & Maxillofacial Centre and is the founder of the Brånemark Osseointegration Center in Hong Kong & Shanghai . Dr. Chow is a Honorary Associate Clinical Professor of The University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Marinello served at the University of Zürich as Assistant Professor and acting head of the Dental Public Health Clinic, Assistant Professor of the Department of Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Material Sciences and Associate Professor and Head of Periodontology. He is a director of the Editorial Council of the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, responsible for strategy development for the journal.

Dr. Tanner is a specialist in prosthodontics, founding partner of The Dawood and Tanner Specialist Dental Practice, Honorary Lecturer in Prosthodontics at Cardiff Dental School. Her clinical practice is primarily implant restoration of the atrophic jaw, and for patients requiring reconstruction on dental implants after Maxillofacial resection or trauma. She lectures internationally and champions mentorship in the UK in the subject of Restoration of Dental Implants.

Dr. Naylor retired from clinical practice in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps after which he served as the Associate Dean for Advanced Education at the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. Following his retirement from the latter position, he moved to Virginia (USA) where he continues to pursue his interests in writing and consulting.

Dr. Wong won awards from the National University of Singapore for his outstanding performance: the FAC Oehlers Gold Medal and Terrell Silver Medal. Dr. Wong is the Chairman of T32 Dental Group Ltd in Singapore. His practice focuses in all areas of restorative care including aesthetic dentistry, full mouth reconstruction, fixed, removable and implant prosthodontics.

Dr. Feng Wang was graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, School of Dentistry, China. She obtained her M.D. degree in Department of Oral Surgery. Currently, she is the Associated Professor of Department of Oral Implantology, Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
